As a Transitional Pastor I have the opportunity to serve churches with the insight of a Certified Church Consultant and the shepherding heart of a pastor with more than three decades of ministry in established churches.

In April of 2018 I completed Transitional Pastor training through Lifeway Christian Resources and the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions. I am excited about the opportunity to serve churches as they transition from one pastor to the next. Transitional Pastor Ministry can totally change the culture and the trajectory of a church!

Pastors leave churches.  Churches seek new pastors. The search process often takes twelve to twenty-four months. During the interim, some churches fill the pulpit with available preachers. Others call an interim pastor to preach and make some hospital visits. Often these churches experience a decline in attendance, giving and overall morale. Most churches would be well-served by calling a trained Transitional Pastor.

I have served churches that used a Transitional Pastor, and I have served churches that did not. The difference is undeniable. My pastoral ministry was much more successful in the churches who took the time during the interim period to understand their current reality, deal with ongoing issues of conflict, asses their strengths and weaknesses and align their ministries to the mission of God.

Throughout the transitional process we will focus on God's word.  We will pray, pray and pray some more. You will do a lot of talking, and I will do a lot of listening as I guide you to experience the preferred future God has for your church.  The transitional process will help you to...

  1. Understand your history through the eyes of Christ.
  2. Assess your community context and your church culture.
  3. Embrace God's design for his church.
  4. Align your ministries to the mission of God.
  5. Deal with any ongoing issues of conflict.

Churches that take the time to follow God through this transitional process are better equipped for long and fruitful ministries when they call a pastor. I recently heard from one pastor who said, "I absolutely agree. I was blessed to follow a transitional pastor in my first pastorate."

The Transitional Pastor is much more than a preacher or even an interim pastor. Churches that embrace the transitional model usually experience increases in attendance, baptisms, giving and overall church morale as they prepare for their next pastor.
