Church Revitalization Residency

Huffman Baptist Church seeks highly motivated college and seminary students to participate in its Church Revitalization Residency program.

The Setting

Huffman Baptist Church is a multi-generational and multiethnic church located in Birmingham, Alabama. Once a very large and thriving regional church, Huffman started a revitalization process in 2019 with a focus on reaching people in the Huffman and Roebuck neighborhoods of northeast Birmingham. We desire to become a family of churches who are sending transformed people to make Jesus known across the street and around the world.

Residents will have an opportunity to work with two congregations, Huffman and Kingdom Family Christian Fellowship. Kingdom Family is a predominantly African-American church plant, which also meets on our campus. We are two churches in one location. Together for the Gospel. Together for our neighborhood.

The Program

Working with the two churches, residents will gain hands-on experience in multiple areas of ministry. Ministry areas include community engagement, evangelism, pastoral care, family ministry, preaching/teaching, worship leadership, worship support, administration and leadership.

Residents will be mentored by our pastoral ministry team led by Dr. Rob Paul, a veteran pastor with over thirty years of experience leading established Southern Baptist churches. Pastor Rob is also a certified church consultant specializing in church revitalization. Our ministry team offers wisdom and insight learned from more than a century of combined ministry experience.

This is a paid residency program. Residency schedules will coincide with the resident’s college or seminary calendar. A typical week will involve twenty hours of ministry and mentoring activities. Residents who complete the entire three-year program will be well equipped to serve the local church.

Most undergraduate and graduate degree programs in ministry have a practical, internship requirement. Interested residents should contact their academic advisers about the possibility of receiving academic credit.

While space is limited, we have openings for 2020-2021. For more information, contact Dr. Rob Paul at [email protected]
